Are you finding yourself going stir crazy from the perpetual indoor season of Covid-19? Put your ample free time to good use by setting yourself up for new employment opportunities after the pandemic has ended. Don’t know where to start, or what to learn? This article will aim to answer those very questions. Let’s hop in.
The In-Demand Jobs of Today
The first place to look for new employment opportunities is a list of the most sought after jobs today. US News and World Report has compiled a nice list of the 100 Best Jobs in America. A quick glance at this list will show that three of the top 12 jobs on the list are either tech-based jobs, or tech-enabled jobs. According to this list, the #1 best job in America is software engineer. Statistician and IT manager are also ranked in the top 12.
Let’s take a look at the skill set required for these best jobs in America, where you can learn these new skills, and what you can expect in one of these top career choices.
Coding Bootcamps: the Future of Tech Education
Don’t have a formal tech education? Don’t have a formal higher education degree? No sweat. A traditional higher ed degree is no longer needed to break into a career in tech. These days coding bootcamps are quickly becoming the preferred method of learning the skill set for a career as a software developer, statistician, IT manager, or other top tech careers.
What is a Coding Bootcamp?
The goal of a coding bootcamp is simple—to provide an easily accessible tech education to motivated career switchers. The short-term, intensive nature of these programs teach students how to code quickly through effective and applicable hands-on experience. The average program length is just two to four months. Coding schools like Hackreactor have partnerships with tech companies located near their campuses. These partnerships help to place their graduates in programming positions, setting them up with a new employment opportunity post-graduation.
What Coding Bootcamp is Right for You?
Need some help finding the right bootcamp for you? Career Karma’s got you covered. They have compiled a list of the best coding bootcamps. They know a thing or two about coding bootcamps. You can trust their coding bootcamp guides as an excellent resource to finding the right program for you.
Got the Coding Skills – Now What?
Once you have learned the necessary coding skills through your bootcamp program, you’re ready to take on the job market. Here’s what you can expect in a career from one of the best tech-based jobs in America that was mentioned earlier.
According to US News and World Report, this is the #1 best job in America. So, what does a software engineer actually do?
Software engineers use their coding know-how in coding languages like Java and SQL to craft new and improved software programs in every industry, both in the professional and personal world. Fan of video games? That’s the handy work of software engineering. Do you use social media to stay connected with friends and family, or to promote your business? All social media platforms thrive off the coding written by software engineers. Use customer relationship management (CRM) programs to manage your team’s on-going projects? You guessed it. Built by software engineers.
Your career as a software engineer will vary depending on the software programs you are tasked with designing and building. One major upside to a software engineering career is that it is completely remote-based capable. That means that you knock out your coding bootcamp, and enjoy the beginnings of a new career without needing to head into an office. Obviously a plus in today’s world of Covid-19.
Plain and simple—statistician’s deal with data. Data science companies, both big and small, have a team of state pros to translate the data collected into research worthy information. A career as a statistician is more tech-enabled than tech-based. That being said, it will benefit you greatly if you know how database management software works. These will be the computer programs that will collect the data that you will analyze. Knowing how to manipulate them yourself will save you time on the job, and likely set you apart from other applicants.
IT managers are the lead point in an organization’s IT department. You can expect to lead a team of talented tech troubleshooters to make sure that your company’s servers, systems, and devices are running smoothly. You may also be tasked with cybersecurity management depending on the size of your company.
Take the spare time you have gained during Covid-19 to set yourself up for new employment opportunities. The best place to find better career opportunities is in the tech industry. Make a short investment in a coding bootcamp. It will pay large dividends in your career opportunities after Covid-19.
How To Choose The Podcast Microphone That’s Right For You
The most important step towards building a successful podcast with an engaged audience is creating interesting, compelling content. But somewhere along the way, every podcaster will come to the same inevitable realization: If I’m going to take this seriously, I need a better microphone.
The best podcast microphone is the podcast microphone that’s right for you. For the uninitiated, differentiating one microphone apart from another is no easy task. We’re here to help, so you can get back to the important stuff: creating great content, knowing it sounds great all the while.
To choose the right microphones for podcasting, you’ll need to consider the following:
- How you’ll connect the microphone: USB (plug ‘n play) or XLR (requires additional hardware)
- The difference in sensitivity between condenser and dynamic microphones
- The space you usually record in
- The number of people you’ll usually be recording
USB (plug ‘n play) vs. XLR (additional hardware) input
There’s a lot to be said for something that just works, and that’s why USB microphones are popular. USB ports are ubiquitous, so there’s a very good chance whatever you’re using to record your podcast has a USB port built in. XLR microphones require additional hardware — an audio interface or mixer — to connect to your computer, but offer flexibility and versatility that USB mics can’t match. Audio interfaces, used widely in professional recording studios, will add additional audio routing and processing capabilities to your recording setup.
USB microphones are plug ‘n play, so all you’ll need to do to get them up and running is make sure that you’ve selected the right microphone in the “Input” panel of your podcasting software. For Alban Brooke, head of marketing at podcast host Buzzsprout, that simplicity and ease of use goes a long way. “Your time should be spent podcasting, not learning how to record, edit, or upload your podcast,” he says.
One key benefit XLR mics offer over USB mics is the lower noise floor provided by the audio interface or mixer, which essentially acts as an external sound card. “Audio interfaces are a must for good sound,” says Kate Astrakhan, an audio engineer at professional podcasting agency Podcast Network Solutions. “Get an Audio Technica ATR2100 and a Behringer interface, and for less than $200, you have something that will give you professional quality sound,” she says.
Dynamic microphones pick up less sound than condenser microphones, but that can be a good thing
As far as podcast microphones go, the choice is between dynamic microphones or condenser microphones. Each is built differently, and if you’re so inclined, you can read more about the science that separates these two kinds of mics. Practically speaking, dynamic microphones are less sensitive to sound and more physically durable than condenser microphones.
Dynamic microphones are capable of recording at far higher volumes than condenser microphones, which is why you’ll see the Shure SM-58 on concert stages worldwide. That’s not a selling point for podcasters — unless you’re recording on stage at a concert, which actually does sound like a great idea for a podcast.
Because of their lower sensitivity, dynamic microphones roll off some higher frequencies and produce a “warmer” sound, akin to a classic “broadcast” or “radio” sound. Condenser microphones capture more nuance in vocal recordings than dynamic microphones, which can lead to a richer, more natural sound.
The increased sensitivity of condenser mics comes with a tradeoff: you run the risk of recording background noise alongside all that added nuance. “Condenser microphones pick up a lot more nuance than dynamic microphones, but for many people, that means a condenser will pick up a lot more unwanted background noise,” says Buzzsprout’s Alban Brooke.
A good way to mitigate unwanted background noise is to pay close attention to the space where you record your podcast.
Your recording space matters — even more than you might think
For quality audio, the space in which you’re recording is just as important as a good microphone. Not taking recording space into account is the most common mistake up-and-coming podcasters make, says Podcast Network Solutions’ Toby Goodman.
“The number one thing podcasters don’t take into consideration is the room in which they’re recording,” he says. “You could buy a top-of-the-line microphone, put it in a bad room, and it would be like buying a sports car and trying to drive it off a mountain — it just doesn’t work.” His colleague Kate Astrakhan agrees. “The key to selecting a good microphone is first making sure your room is full of soft surfaces, not hard surfaces,” she says. “Then even if you buy the cheapest USB microphone available, your sound will be better than it would be otherwise.”
Soft surfaces are the key to dampening sound reflections. Buzzsprout’s Alban Brooke recommends a simple solution: “Record where there’s a lot of soft material to soak up the sound — for a lot of podcasters, this means a walk-in closet,” he says.
Might not be glamorous, but it definitely gets the job done.
Consider how many speakers you plan to record
When it comes time to record more than one person at once, it’s helpful to understand a microphone’s polar pattern. These patterns illustrate the directions in which a microphone picks up sound: in front and from both sides, but not the back, for instance.
Most podcasters should stick with cardioid mics, for solo speakers recording directly into a mic, and bi-directional mics, which records two speakers in front and in back. Some microphones allow you to choose from different polar patterns, so take that into consideration if you plan on recording multiple speakers with one microphone.
If you regularly record with additional speakers — if your podcast features a local co-host that records with you in person, for example — then investing in an audio interface is a must. Pick up an audio interface with 2 (or more) XLR ports and as many dynamic microphones as you need. With that setup, recording multiple people will be a breeze.
Choose the podcast microphone that’s right for you
No microphone is a magic bullet, but this guide will help you determine which works best for your podcast. Now, go forth and record some great content!

By Kody Sloos:With the fall season in full effect, usually the colours on the leaves are accompanied with a massive amount of good music. The fall season seems to bring about some of the best music of all time. With many classic releases such as Jay-Z’s “Hard Knock Life” and more being released around this time of year it’s proven that the artistic mind flourishes in autumn. With this being said, North Carolina artist, Anella Herim has just announced the release of his newest and upcoming music video, “Vibin”.
The Trinity native carries an astonishing amount of talent. While only just graduating high school in the spring time, Anella’s young age does not shine through his music. In a world where everyone wants to be the next big thing, only a select few have all the bases covered, Anella just happens to be one of them. It’s been just under a year now since I’ve had the privilege of stumbling across the single “No One”. Upon the very first listen of the track, I was instantly curious to find out more information on the artist behind this tune. After doing some digging, I soon realized that Anella was no rookie. Anella has been silently working for some time now, not only did he have a decent discography, but the tracks were amazing. I couldn’t understand for the life of me, how this guy was in high school but carried amazing vocal range, as well as unique style adaptability on every song. When I say you can’t compare Anella Herim to anyone you’ve heard before, I mean it.
As previously stated, everyone wants to be the next big thing, but not many put the work in. This is not the case for Anella. Over the last few months the North Carolina artist has put his foot on the gas more than ever before. His most recent single “Stalling” was just released over the summer and the song is sure to set fire to any playlist it’s added too. With the help of his manager Malik at DOG records, the pair have embarked on a mission together, a mission to take over. With the COVID-19 pandemic effecting the morale and productivity of almost everyone, Anella has used the down time to dial in and perfect his craft. Hitting the studio almost daily, doing radio appearances, and live performances Anella’s work ethic is something to be envied.
With the announcement of the “Vibin” video hitting his instagram only in the last week, Anella shared the inspiration behind the set up for the video. “The inspiration for the video was my friends, we were thinking about making movies. We were talking about scenes, cool edits and that’s when we came up with the video idea. We sketched it out, got some friends to play along, then it was just a vibe from there”. Anella also announced that he has a massive arsenal of releases coming soon, from full projects, videos, and live shows including opening for Polo G on October 30th. The amount of work ethic the Trinity artist brings with him is something you rarely see today. I highly recommend checking out some of his work, and stay tuned for the “Vibin” video.
‘Power Book II: Ghost’ Renewed for Second Season at Starz
50 Cent is officially a titan on television. With a series in development about his beef with The Game, 50 is also going to be gearing up for another season of Power Book II: Ghost. Deadline reports the series has already been picked up for a second season with a record-breaking premiere.
Ghost brought in 7.5 million multi-platform viewers in the debut week and now has the title of “the most-watched new series in the network’s history,” which includes its preceding series.
“When I had the idea to create the ‘Power’ Universe I knew there were going to be many levels to its success, I am glad the fans agree,” 50 Cent wrote. “I am looking forward to releasing ‘Raising Kanan’ and ‘Force’ soon.”
6ix9ine Blog by Kody Sloos
By Kody Sloos: As many of you know Bushwick, New York artist Tekashi 69 has now been free of home confinement for just over a month now. Since taking to the streets once again, 6ix9ine immediately returned to his old antics. Trolling other artists in the industry, showing off hundreds of thousands of dollars in public, shooting videos and walking the streets of New York with his posse of militant security. The one thing Tekashi hasn’t been is humble. You would think, after barely escaping a 47 year prison sentence, the New York native would take a moment to smell the roses, this has not been the case, not even close.
While living in a time of digital streaming, album downloads, bundling and other ways to boost album sales, first week sales have become somewhat of a competition within the music industry, especially in hip-hop. Since returning to social media, 6ix9ine has taken it upon himself to clown some of the hottest names in the rap game for their “low” first week numbers. While calling out names such as Lil Durk, Trippie Redd and more, 6ix9ine put a massive amount of unnecessary pressure on himself, while announcing his album was releasing September 4th. While the date quickly approached, the rap game along with many fans, stood back and watched with anticipation. Everyone was on stand by to see if Tekashi could put his money, or album sales, where his mouth was.
It has now been almost two weeks since 6ix9ine released his second studio album “Tattle Tales”. The first week sales projections were originally estimated to be 150,000 which would of been a massive win for 24 year old Tekashi, sadly things changed. In the past we’ve seen artists at every level, incorporate strategies to boost the sales of their album. Previously artists were able to bundle their album with merchandise to boost their sales. Examples such as when Travis Scott used keychains, hats, concert tickets to boost the sales of “Astroworld”, or when DJ Khaled did his best to edge out Tyler The Creator’s “IGOR” by bundling his album sales along side energy drinks to take the number one spot. This strategy has been implemented for some time now, becoming the new norm in the industry. This is exactly the same road that Tekashi would go down when “Tattle Tales” was announced.
With the original projection of 150,000 first week, we can only imagine Tekashi was showing off that brand new smile of his, sadly it would be short lived. For months the speculation that bundle deals would be taken off the table, circled the internet. Although there was no set date on when this new policy would come into effect, it was clear the new rule was placed into effect when 6ix9ine’s first week projections dropped by over 100,000. The first week projections for the “Tattle Tales” rapper would drop as low as 40,000 days before the numbers were collected and the internet EXPLODED.
Trolls took to the comment section of almost every single hiphop page on instagram to let 6ix9ine know, his career was over. Now this is where it gets messy. 55k first week sales is absolutely nothing to be ashamed about, in fact if we take away bundles, 55k is down right impressive. None the less, we know how the internet works, if 6ix9ine was trolling artists for selling 50k then the internet gave that same energy right back to him. Now with the behaviour of the New York artist, it’s hard to feel sorry for him, honestly you shouldn’t. 6ix9ine landed a #1 spot on the Top Album SALES chart. This is PURE sales, without streaming. 6ix9ine’s album landed #4 on Billboard 200 and his pure sales first week amounted 25k+, a number that is very high in present day.
All this information is very hard to decipher when deciding if his career is “over” or not, but while many would say the 24 year old is one his way out, you could argue he’s still here to say. My thoughts after all the madness are as followed; I think Tekashi’s career in North America (Mostly Canada & US) is going to be short lived, but many forget how successful the rapper was on tour overseas. The European listeners ADORE him, if anything were to “save” his career, it would be a European tour.
What is Python Used for? | Major Industries
How is Python used in the real world?
Python is one of the most popular languages for coding in the world.
The majority of top U.S. colleges even use Python in their introductory coding classes: teaching students to use Python to build simple games, parse information from web pages, and even conduct language processing!
Still, many parents and students alike often wonder — how is Python actually used in companies or various fields?
Read on to learn how Python powers today’s leading industries, and plays a major role in numerous computer science disciplines.
Python is a high-level and general-purpose coding language — meaning that it’s easier to understand and can be used to solve a variety of problems!
With its simple syntax, high readability, usability across operating systems, Python is a valuable language to both learn and use for a variety of applications.
It’s therefore not surprising that Python is prevalent in not only today’s job market, but also in common technology we use everyday.
Python programming is a skill that can be used in virtually any industry, as well as in positions far beyond just software development. From industries like finance, healthcare, and insurance, to fields like aerospace to entertainment — Python-based tech is driving innovation and new solutions.
In our What is Python 101 guide, we introduced Python as well as a few of the fields Python is used in such as tech, finance, and biotech. But in this article, we’ll be taking a deeper look at even more of Python’s broad uses — specifically in the following areas:
- Web development
- Data science
- Machine learning
- Artificial intelligence
Applications of Python
Web development refers to the building of websites on the internet, from static, plain text pages to dynamic ecommerce sites and interactive internet applications.
Coding is crucial in web development to build out site functions, optimize user experience, and ensure that that information is organized properly. Python’s web frameworks such as Django and Flask have become popular options for website development.
Python is a great option for backend web development, and is used by many companies today.
These open-source frameworks allow users to build web applications more efficiently due to Python’s ability to handle vast amounts of data and automate tasks. In fact, companies such as Instagram, Pinterest and Google incorporate Python in their backend web development.
Python is also a major language of choice when it comes to data science and data analysis.
In the age of big data, we come into contact with data frequently in our everyday lives, with technology such as navigation (GPS), online shopping, energy use, and wearables such as smart watches.
The average household contains around eleven devices and that number is likely to increase in the future! With so many devices, there is a vast amount of data that businesses need to process in order to provide their services.
Python-based tools are often used to visualize, process, and analyze large amounts of data.
Data science relates to processing data and inferencing trends — and Python is incredibly useful in this area due its intensive packages like scipy, numpy, and pandas.
Additionally, the matplotlib package can be used to build data visualizations. This makes Python a popular choice in fields like bioinformatics that also involve a lot of data and modeling.
These Python-based tools have become popular due to their ease of use and scalability. For example, Netflix uses scipy and numpy for numerical computing to manage user traffic across the platform.
By analyzing vast amounts of data, machine learning algorithms can find patterns and apply those patterns to make sense of future behavior.
The most obvious use of machine learning in products is recommendation systems. Companies such as Netflix, Spotify, and Youtube collect user activity to make predictions and suggest playlists and videos.
Scikit-learn and tensorflow are Python libraries that enable the use of algorithms for classification, clustering, and regression on large data sets. The high performance and extensive functionality of these libraries make them essential in any exploration of machine learning.
Machine learning is actually just one facet of artificial intelligence. AI refers to the intelligence of machines and the development of computer systems to perform human-oriented tasks such as perception or decision making.
One prominent example of artificial intelligence is in ridesharing apps, like Uber and Lyft.
Python is used in artificial intelligence for apps like Lyft or Uber. The AI system can then predict things like user demand and estimated arrival times.
Uber utilizes AI for predicting user demand and estimated arrival times (among other features) and much of this is accomplished through Python.
In addition to some of the previously mentioned Python libraries, AI functionality such as prediction models and neural networks can be created through other libraries like keras and pytorch.
Python is Everywhere!
Among popular programming languages, Python is one of the most diverse in its applications. Moreover, it’s deeply integrated within our everyday life as well as today’s leading companies.
The range of careers that involve Python include software engineer, web developer, data scientist, product manager, business analyst and more. Regardless of industry, companies in this technological age rely on data-driven decision making and Python is the perfect tool to do just that.
If you or your child are interested in the fields or roles listed above, then learning Python is a great choice!

Seasons 3 and 4 of ‘Atlanta’ to be Filmed in 2021
Fans of Donald Glover’s hit TV show Atlantahave been patiently waiting for season three for over two years. Welp, that wait just got longer.
The show was originally supposed to return in January 2021, however, the ongoing production hiatus due to COVID-19 means that production for season three cannot resume until next year. Filming was supposed to take place in Europe following the season two finale where Al, Paper Boi, was about to embark on a European tour.
FX Networks Chairman, John Landgraf, said in a press conference that production for the hit show will resume in early 2021, and season three will be released later next year. However, he was not able to give an exact date.
Even though this news is heartbreaking, especially for die-hard Atlanta fans, Landgraf did share some good news. He said that the writers for the show have been very productive in these last few months and have written almost the entirety of not only season three but season four as well. This means that the seasons will be shot back to back
Season three of Atlanta was ordered back in June of 2018, not long after the season two finale. The long wait in-between seasons two and three were attributed to Glover’s busy schedule.
The Artists That Blurred The Lines Between Rap and Rock By: By Jae Bree
Nowadays, we have plenty of genre-hopping magicians like Kendrick Lamar, MGK, and Lil Nas X who continue to show the world how rap can stand alongside any genre. But combining genres wasn’t always this easy. While many of us are already familiar with how Run DMC and Aerosmith collaborated on the first rap-rock song in 1986’s Walk This Way, there are many other artists who paved the road for the uneasy and ever-evolving peace between two of the world’s biggest and baddest music genres.
Anthrax and Public Enemy
During the early ‘90s, hip hop was entering its golden age while bands like Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, and Anthrax – also known as The Big Four – were leading the aggressive charge of the thrash metal scene. The guitarists from these bands are known for popularizing the overdrive pedal, a now-staple gritty, crunchy, gain-heavy sound in the modern metal genre. And it was during this era that the legendary Scott Ian, Anthrax’s rhythm guitarist, lent his overdrive chops to one of the greatest rap groups in history. Today, the 1991 Anthrax and Public Enemy song Bring The Noise is widely recognized as the first rap-metal song in history.
Rage Against the Machine
During the same year that Bring The Noise was released, Rage Against the Machine (RATM) was formed. And from 1992 onwards, the band has released a slew of some of the most important rap-rock albums of all time. There’s no doubt that the driving force of this political rap-rock machine is vocalist Zach de la Rocha, who spits verses and sings with one of the most recognizable voices in ‘90s alternative rock. Meanwhile, the wild rock guitar riffs that RATM is also known for were supplied by Tom Morello, a known hogger of distortion pedals and other effects, which allowed him to become one of the most influential experimental electric guitarists of all time. RATM didn’t just blur the lines of rap and rock. They’re what happens when you completely ignore the line and do whatever you want.
The Black Keys
These blues-rock legends made the list for one huge reason: the 2009 album Blackroc. Roc-A-Fella records co-founder Damon Dash worked with The Black Keys to produce arguably the greatest collection of blues-driven rap rock songs in history. Collaborators include the rapper formerly known as Mos Def, Jim Jones, Q-Tip, RZA, Raekwon, Nicole Wray, Pharoah Monch, the Ol’ Dirty Bastard, and other rappers and rnb singers. While RATM drew from the aggressive similarities between rap and rock, the artists who worked on Blakroc tapped the soulful connections between blues, rock, rnb, and hip hop.
Fronted by Illaman, London’s ‘hardest working emcee,’ PENGSHUi is a proto-punk, dubstep-driven hip hop group that was formed in 2018. The band’s dubstep drops and hard rock melodies are care of multi-instrumentalist and pedal hogging bassist Chris Hargreaves, while DJ Pravvy Prav supplies the aggressively technical drumming. PENGSHUi is a taste of how rap-rock has evolved over the years, a contemporary rickety bridge between the age-old alliance of punk and hip hop.
Speaking of punk, many forget that the Beastie Boys have been blending rap-rock, hip hop, funk, and hardcore punk since 1986’s Licensed to Ill. In 1996’s The In Sound From Way Out, the rapping trio stretched their instrumental chops to create a funky, boom bap-inspired collection of some of the stickiest beats in hip hop history. Today, albums like 1989’s Paul’s Boutique and 2004’s To the 5 Boroughs still make it to contemporary ‘best-of’ lists.
Talented rapper-singers Chester Bennington and Mike Shinoda, along with Joe Hahn’s DJ chops, were undoubtedly the main driving forces behind the most commercially successful rap-rock group in history. Whether you love or hate Linkin Park, the fact is that their emo and alternative rock-driven music was what allowed rap-rock to be truly appreciated by mainstream audiences. Although hardcore fans may argue that their best work continues to be their first album, 2000’s Hybrid Theory, later albums like 2003’s Meteora and 2010’s A Thousand Suns are passionate, technical masterpieces in their own right.
While there are many other artists that deserve at least a mention on this list, these are the ones that have paved the way for the rest. In the future, rap, hip hop, and rnb will continue to rapidly evolve with the many sub-genres of rock. The next mind-melting rap-rock album could be just around the corner.
