The best products are the ones that make the world better. The ones that fill a void for the people. COVID hit the world in a way none of us were prepared, especially the artist community. One of the biggest parts of a musicians craft and income is live performance. Giving the consumer a way to support, as well as experience the music to the fullest. With that being taken away, it has left a huge void that needs to be filled, and entrepreneur and musician, Claire Bennet has an answer with the new app, Ugigs.
Ugigs was developed pre COVID as an online community of artists and venues, to book each other directly. With the pandemic it forced them to either shelf the app, or find an innovative way to to keep things afloat. What they’ve done at Ugigs is make something for the time, that brings more life to the culture by making it a virtual experience that revolutionizes they way we experience live entertainment, by bringing live performances to anyone, anywhere in the world.
The app not only gives artists a platform to perform, but also generate revenue in many different ways including selling a live stream directly to their followers, to multiple venues once they are open, tips from their audience, as well as making the live stream downloadable after the performance for a fee, and this all takes place in this one app. With all that’s possible for the artist, they also will give venues a chance to create revenue regardless of social distancing, and regulations by live streaming concerts from their venue, directly to the consumer.
Ugigs stream makes it simple and easy for artists and even use everywhere to monetize on their live performances. They only take 10% of all transactions, and there is no requirement for subscriptions or contracts, leaving the only work for the artists and venue to do is download the app for free.

When making a platform it’s important to be innovative in your approach. Bringing fresh ideas, in a new way to not only make you situation better, but the world better. That’s something that will always help things go far, and sky’s the limit for Democharts. An innovative new music network that connect industry experts, labels, and scouts with the next big artists. They were gracious enough to discuss their platform with us, check out the interview below!
What is Democharts?
Democharts aims to be the most exclusive music network worldwide. The platform connects music industry experts, labels and scouts with promising artists. How does it work? The artist uploads his song to Democharts. Industry Experts can now listen to a 60 seconds segment of the song chosen by the artist and rate it. The best performing tracks will be featuredin the “Demo Charts”, a chartlist for unreleased music. The platform is closed gates and all industry experts are verified by our team.
What is the inspiration behind starting Democharts?
A few years ago, when we were producing music ourselves, we encountered the same problem again and again. A lot of artists with great music and talent without connections to industry experts. Getting honest feedback on songs has been difficult and time consuming. We thought “Let’s build the ultimatemusic scouting platform” and get great music heard by the right people.
Whats your Vision for Democharts?
We want to be the #1 music scouting platform in the World, that’s for sure. Our goal is to create the perfect platform for labels, managers, agencies and more to scout undiscovered talents. This way we can give artists a fair chance to be discovered by great people.
What do you enjoy the most about running Democharts? What do you find most challenging?
It’s great to work with an amazing team and getting things done. We value every feedback and thoughts on the project and it’s amazing how much supportwe’re getting within the whole industry. The biggest challenge this year was when the whole COVID situation started happening. We knew that some ideas could not be executed in time and our member onboarding got delayed. It was challenging for us at first but we made the best out of it. We still managed to get a complete rebranding done within two months which worked out truly perfectly.
What impact do you think that Democharts will have on the world?
Democharts will become the go to platform when it comes to pitching new music. Artists will have more time for music creation and won’t have to worry about finding the right connections anymore. In the long term, this will result in better music on streaming platforms, radios or advertisements.
What can people expect next from Democharts?
We’re planning our launch by the end of 2020. Also we’re implementing a second feature that will help artists to connect with experts directly via video call. 2021 will be an exciting year for us and our supporters.

Artist have way more control than ever have. Far from the days of artists only doing music, with the new age artists not only having incredible music, but savvy business acumen as well. Any artists who embodies this is Joby Wright. This Indiana talent has high level skills musically and has established an amazing brand called BFA Ent. He was gracious enough to take time to answer some questions for us. Below is the interview
Who is Joby Wright the artist?
A man with a plan. An artist that gives his listeners a true reflection of who he is on every track. Music is a direct medium to communicate a message and I try to utilize that in every song.
Who are some of your influences in music and business?
Musically, it’s hard to pinpoint a central figure. I’m inspired by life experiences mostly. That’s the best way for me to stay true to myself and remain “real” to my listeners. From a business standpoint I created my own brand before it was really a trend. I try to outdo my previous ventures while also staying as innovative as I can.
What inspired you to start BFA ENT?
My original crew and I loved rap and everything that came with it. I’m from Indiana, and I wanted to put my name on the map. We started doing open mics, which led to me promoting and bringing national acts to my town. Before long, my name was synonymous with shows and concerts. We came up with the name, BROTHER FROM ANOTHER to represent what we stood for. BFA became a movement, and I’m forever grateful for the people that believed in the idea and the vision.
What challenges have you ran into building the brand and how have you overcome them?
The biggest challenge is staying relevant. All the time you hear people say you need to reinvent yourself. I disagree with that notion. To me, it’s all about sticking to your roots while also focusing on constant growth. What is the biggest thing you want people to take away from you and your brand?
Make every move a genuine one. Getting caught up in what everyone else is doing is a mistake. Being an individual is so important, and we want to stand out. Believe in what you do 100%
What’s next for Joby Wright?
I’ve dropped a lot of projects over the years, but my last two projects have been very well received. Genesis and Exodus are basically Chapter 1 and 2 of the Joby Wright story. I put them out to give my fans a blueprint. This summer I will give the people Chapter 3, Leviticus. The last book of the trilogy, and to me the most important one. Look out for that!

Music and fashion have always had a special relationship. Both playing a major role in shifting the culture and defining the times of our lives. It’s that special correlation that has brought together Roberto Reale (aka Neuro.b) and Paolina Consiglieri for Blekkett, a hip-hop and electronic music production house and a fashion consultancy agency, that you owe it to yourself to get familiar with. They were gracious enough to take time to answer some questions for us. Below is the interview.
What is Blekkett?
Blekkett is a brand created by the artists for the artists. Founded by Roberto Reale (aka Neuro.b) in 2015 as a small independent record label, and since 2020 in co-foundation with Paolina Consiglieri, it is a hip-hop and electronic music production house and a fashion consultancy agency.
What inspired you to get into music and fashion?
We both grew up with a profound passion for music and fashion, it’s something innate.
Roberto: I was connected and exposed to the world of music since I was born.
My parents and siblings are economists, but they loved music and introduced me to a variety of sounds: my mama listened to opera, my father used to play the keyboards and my brother and sisters loved rock and hip-hop music. They always supported my growth, even when I decided to stop studying medicine to become a professional musician.
Furthermore I always dreamed of getting in touch with the fashion world, and meeting Paolina was unbelievably matching with my passions and goals.
Paolina: Fashion has always been fundamental in my life. I started working as a model, then my passion got bigger and I started studying a lot. I wanted to go deeper and understand what’s behind the fashion system, so I founded a blog dedicated to emerging talents and specialized in digital communication.
Music is one of my biggest passions since ever, my mum is a vocal coach, so music has always been there.
We are grateful for our individual visions as they fit perfectly and felt into place when we started our project together.
What’s the vision for Blekkett?
We exactly know where we want to be. It’s because we have a clear vision of our goals and dreams. We work to accomplish them. Blekkett can be a landmark for all those people who want to become their best version. We are striving to build the biggest community possible, helping creatives unleash their full potential by giving them all the tools they need to do it.
Our motto is indeed “Talent is given, Success is produced”.
What do you enjoy the most about running Blekkett? What do you find most challenging?
Blekkett began back in 2015, but only since 2020 is a brand and company.
We are like freshmen in high school, with a dean mindset!
Since this is the beginning, the most challenging and enjoyable thing is giving our best to see grow our company, understanding how we can improve our assets, what we do right and what we do wrong.
There’s no instruction manual to success, we simply enjoy the ride to it.
What advice would you give someone trying to start their own brand?
Surround yourself with great people, whom share your same vision and have your same core values.
Be bold, work with macro patience and micro speed.
Absolutely mute all voices around you and listen to who you are.
What can people expect next from Blekkett?
We just launched our first t-shirt, and we’re working to start our clothing brand.
Producing records is a big deal now, since we are looking for artists to enrich our roaster.
Plus, we are always focused on the wellbeing of our community, so we always create events and promote initiatives for charity, too.

Music and fashion have always intertwined. Going hand and hand to create an impact on the culture. The two are so connected that they both have become crowded markets. The same way there’s an overflow of new artists, there’s an overflow of fashion brands. In order to stand out you have to be amazing and something fresh for the people, SomwhereJugn is that fresh thing for the people.
A clothing brand with high quality and great clothing to stand out from the pack, with must wear gear. CEO of SomewhereJugn, Boo was gracious enough to take time to answer some questions for us, for his brand. Below is the interview.
What is SomewhereJugn?
Funny you asked that….. I have a definition
What inspired you to get into fashion?
When I was a teenager I loved to pull up looking fly. I would wear clothes from a lot of different designers and as my age increased so did the price I had to pay for the things I liked. Style goes through so many different phases and I’ve lived through a bunch of them, finally I said I want to be apart of this…. I want to be the guy designing the clothes that make people leave puddles when they step into the building. Don’t slip on the drip!
What’s the vision for SomewhereJugn?
My vision is simple supply a brand that also awakens something in our youth. A brand that makes them feel they can do anything go anywhere and be successful. Somewherejugn wants you to break through the glass ceiling and live limitless.
What do you enjoy the most about running Somewherejugn? What do you find most challenging?
I enjoy working with my dope design team, putting projects together and the travel opportunities. My brand has opened a lot of doors for me to network and meet people I wouldn’t have. Everyday is a new challenge guess that is part of ownership. Not everyone in the industry is honest and you suffer just as many losses as you do success. I’m a believer and I definitely believe in myself it’s the Leo in me.
What advice would you give someone trying to start their own brand?
Have Money I repeat have money. In all seriousness though be committed and don’t expect things to happen overnight. Do you research not just on materials but also what’s hot in the market. Last but not least network don’t count out the college kid that wants to draw a design because they aren’t known and don’t count on the established guy just because he’s established. Be open to making connections with everyone.
What can people expect next from SomewhereJugn?
I’m currently working on launching my summer collection so keep your eye out. You can see all new items on my website www.somewherejugn.com and I’m really excited about a collaboration in the works with By Karen Beystedt. Checkout my merchandise in The Lost Warhols in the Beverly Center Los Angeles level 6. Tell her I sent you.

Hip Hop has many layers and a lot of History. Since it’s beginning in the Bronx, Hip Hop has grown and expanded any limits one can set on it. Through the years many odes have been given to this genre. From the funk and jazz samples, to the stories told in the rhymes. The story of Hip Hop never gets old.
Author Mwalim brings a fresh approach with his new Hip -Hop Jazz Folklore “Land of the Black Squirrels”. Mwalim was gracious enough to take time to answer some questions for us. Below is the interview.
Who is Mwalim the author?
I’m a writer, and a single dad, and a teacher, and a musician, and… Essentially, I’m a storyteller who choses different mediums through-which to convey my stories. My stories come from experiences, observations, and philosophical contemplations. Storytelling and conversation were strong elements on both sides of my family.
There can be tons of common sense and folk-wisdom in a single story about going to the store. My stories have taken the form of songs. Some of my stories have come out as plays, for stage radio and screen. Sometimes, they’re lectures given to my students on various topics.
Was there a defining moment when you knew you wanted to be an author? If so what was it?
I actually learned to read by learning how to write. It was a method employed by my second grade teacher, Michael Shaw, who is now a professor and the head of literacy education at St Thomas Aquinas College. Writing was always a side interest to music. I began winning awards for fiction writing when I was a student at Music & Art HS in New York City. I won a couple fo school awards and a couple of city-wide competitions.
I always liked writing short stories and plays, particularly because I like writing dialogues. A full length work only occurred to me when I realized The Bronx Boheme couldn’t be contained in a single story, or novel for that matter. Long-form creative writing is a different animal than the other mediums. In many ways it’s actually a combination of the other techniques.
What was the inspiration behind your new Hip-Hop Jazz Folklore “Land of the Black Squirrels”?
Hip-Hop started in The Bronx, but folks often forget that The Bronx already had strong musical traditions with jazz, calypso, boogalu, soul… generations of musicians lived in the northeast Bronx. Growing up in the northeast Bronx, coming from a music family, and growing up among peers who were musicians and aspiring musicians and performers.
I grew up in the 1970s and 80’s when Hip-Hop was on the rise but there was still a strong jazz and soul music vibe and tradition in the Northeast Bronx. When you grow up playing and instrument, playing in orchestras and bands, and learn music theory, you have a different understanding of hip-hop than a DJ or a rapper. I wanted to make that world the backdrop for the story.
How did you know it was time to release “Land of the Black Squirrels”?
I actually finished the manuscript in 2017. After a hundred of rejection letters, I started getting nibbles and interests from a number of small presses. It was interesting and a little discouraging to see how few African American presses were interested in experimental Black lit. One press actually wanted me to “… put a little more hood…” into the narrative. Finally, Thirty-three Pages, which is based here in Massachusetts, was the best fit.
Were there any obstacles while creating “Land of the Black Squirrels”? If so what were they?
Aside from the time constraints of being a full-time educator, parent, and performing artist? One obstacle was figuring how to tell the story. It began as a short story and evolved into a screenplay, then became an epic poem, and finally a novel. The other challenge was how to tell a multi-layered story.
It was a conversation with the late, great Luis Reyes Rivera that opened up the idea of writing a long-form, jazz poem as a novel and tell the story in the way that memories occur to us as opposed to chronological order; which throws some readers, especially those who have been conditioned by being spoon-fed narratives. Another challenge was finding a publisher. In today’s market, Black American male writers are supposed to only crank out urban lit with speculative fiction following a close second.

Music is a forever growing thing. It’s more accessible than it’s ever been, which means there’s more artist than ever. With more artists around, means there’s more need of a platform for them to be heard. A platform for the culture, that’s dope to not only check out but be apart of, and have integrity in it’s mission. That’s everything that Flyyr Population is and more. The head of the platform Remie Supreme was gracious enough take time to discuss his platform with us. Below is the interview.
What is Flyyr Population? Flyyr Population represents the demographic of people that consciously live in love and appreciate good music. I like to think of it as a brand that anyone can be apart of and participate in if you understand the vibe.
What inspired you to start your own media platform?
I was at that point in life where I started to realize my purpose and it’s the relation to what my career should be. So when I asked myself the question of what my passion could be, I could only think of how much Hip-Hop has had an effect on my life. Not just the music though more so the culture. Most of my childhood memories are of me on lime-wire downloading the newest Lil Wayne freestyle or watching Big Tigger in the Basement and 106th & Park.
I also realized how much I always loved discussing the latest current events within the culture. But especially having that feeling of putting someone onto something amazing like Styles P’s Switch My Style Freestyle. Or especially something as monumental as Ray J going in, on The Breakfast Club.
Those realizations helped me figure out that media was something I had a true passion for.
What’s your vision for Flyyr Population?
My plan is to establish a mainstream media outlet driven by love, awareness, and fye music.
What do you enjoy the most about running Flyyr Population? What do you find most challenging?
I love having an outlet to express consciousness and love that society really needs these days.
The biggest challenge I’ve been facing is having so many different content ideas like creating various vlogs, talk shows or podcasts to giving care packages to less fortunate people. But I only have x amount of skills. So I’ve been trying to network and build a team, but you see the way my anxiety is set up …
In all honesty, though, I don’t mind the challenge. I know life is really all about the journey and I truly believe I’m on the right path. What advice would you give someone trying to start their own platform?
Believe in yourself and your purpose and don’t lollygag or wait on anyone.
What can people expect next from Flyyr Population?
Currently, I’m working on building a radio platform. But you can definitely expect to see the Flyyr Pop brand on your TV, Youtube, or streaming platforms like Netflix, Hulu, etc. in the future as well!

Director John Alexander Gives us an in depth view of Soul Legend Rudy Love’s Film “This Is Love” Executive Produced by Mick Fleetwood) with Jay-z, Sinbad, George Clinton set to Premiere in NYC August 1st at Hip Hop Film Festival
Soul music is the origin of everything great in music. That incredible sound that can’t be denied and lasts for a lifetime and beyond. Soul music has been sampled in many hit records, as well as help make Hip Hop a prominent genre. One of Soul music’s legends is Rudy Love. Rudy Love is an unsung legend, whose name the public may not know, but who created hits for Ray Charles, Little Richard and Isaac Hayes, and whose music is behind the samples of Jay Z, Prodigy, and Dilated Peoples, among many others.
A creative collective came together to bring his story to life in the new documentary “This Is Love” executive produced by Mick Fleetwood (Fleetwood Mac), which will be making its NYC Premiere at the Hip Hop Film Festival on August 1st. The new documentary “This Is Love” features comedian Sinbad, the king of funk George Clinton (Parliament/Funkadelic), Marsai Martin (Black-ish), as well as Fleetwood. Cast and crew will be attending the NYC Premiere.
Director of the film John Alexander was gracious enough to take time to answer questions regarding “This Is Love” below is the interview.
What inspired you to make the film “This Is Love”?
Shawn Rhodes, Billboard Award winning producer, had been shooting and gathering archival footage of Rudy Love for years before he pitched the project to myself and to producer JC Guest, describing it as one of the greatest untold stories in music history. Juxtaposing the tremendous talent and influence of Love against someone who is a seemingly completely off the map character, living in Wichita KS with his family, and full of nothing but love and humility, despite essentially having all his music taken away, Rhodes discovered that this premise was an incredibly inspiring character and story. And then I heard Rudy Love sing. When I first heard his voice, in a live, intimate and almost podunk setting in Kansas, I realized it was a voice that I had heard in my music collection, on the radio in my car, and all over the world.
What are some things that you learned about Rudy Love while making the film?
Making “This Is Love” I learned that I had been a Rudy Love fan for years, and I just didn’t know I was. So much of my favorite music, from Sly & The Family Stone classics like the “High on You” album to contemporary hip hop and R&B tracks such as Jay Z’s “Sweet”, had been influenced in one way or another by Love and his incredibly talented family. I also learned that this wasn’t the case just for me, but that among countless listeners and industry icons there are circulating rumors of the so-called legend of Rudy Love, and how he, somewhat invisibly, laid much of the groundwork for music as we know it today. No wonder Prodigy, Dilated Peoples, The Alchemist and others have continued sampling Love to this day. Some have said Rudy Love is like a ghost of the record industry, affecting us across genres whether we know it or not, and regardless of if he had been credited, compensated or recognized. I learned that this legend not only holds true, but that Love is even more elusive and pervasive than I could have imagined. A guru, a ghost, a legend, you might not know Rudy Love’s name, but you have undoubtedly heard his voice, as it is nearly everywhere and nowhere at the same time.
How was it interviewing such legendary musicians for this film?
Working with individuals like Mick Fleetwood and George Clinton was wonderful because we were connected not only by a passion for Rudy Love but all that he stands for. Love’s story represents countless artists who have fallen mercy to an all too often corrupt and racist record industry of the 20th and 21st centuries. Love can be seen as the ultimate underdog of the music industry, whereas many of his peers are household names. To feel those such as George Clinton simply melt with reverence, gratitude, and homage by uttering the words Rudy Love, creates an instant and lasting bond. In bringing in a host of other talent to the film, we also got to have fun with comedians and actors like Sinbad, Michael Colyar, and Marsai Martin, and everyone brought their own special something to the table in this incredibly collaborative group project.
What was your biggest objective with putting “This Is Love” together?
The biggest objective for “This Is Love” has been to touch people’s hearts. Love is aptly named, and one of his guiding mantras is ‘that which is from the heart reaches the heart.’ We felt if we shared this story and its soul genuinely and vulnerably, it would strike a chord in others, and inspire them to feel love, in any way, and pass it on to others.
What would you like for people to take away from “This Is Love”?
We would like people to take away from “This Is Love” that there are many people out there who may not be famous and who may not be rich, but who have left lasting legacies in the arts and who have touched the lives of others. “This Is Love” strives to shine light on all of those artists.
With “This Is Love” set to premiere August 1st. What’s next for you?
Cast and crew will be attending the New York Premiere on August 1, where “This Is Love” is the opening night feature of the Hip Hop Film Festival, at the National Black Theatre in Harlem. Afterward the film be screening twice more in Italy, following its wins of Best International Documentary at the Rome Independent Film Festival and the Jury Prize in Florence at the African Diaspora Cinema Festival, as well as throughout Europe and regionally in the USA. As far as other projects for myself and my company Crook & Nanny Productions, I am currently in development on a feature thriller, as well as another documentary.

Building a brand goes far beyond just what you market, but the values that you instill not only in your company but the culture. The way of how what you do resonates with the people is what will shine through the most, and the cultural impact rooted in honor and integrity has gotten M3S3 Apparel far. CEO of M3S3 Apparel Fred Thompson not only has great clothing but greater principals for this thriving company. We wanted to know more about the man and the company. Fred was gracious enough to take the time to answer some questions for us. Below is the interview.
Who is Fred Thompson?
A Father, Husband, Military Veteran, Mentor and Entrepreneur. From a small city called Goldsboro North Carolina, but currently Making Moves in Miami Florida.
What inspired you to get into fashion?
It’s started with being around people growing up who had to dress nice we always had to have the right shirt the right had the right paints and the right shoes. It’s a little insane because to a certain extent it was more important than anything else because of the reaction you again if you were not dressed a certain way at some of the schools I went to, The older I got the more I want it what I wore to represent what I stood for it now matters to me who made when I’m wearing in with that company or brand is about. M3S3 stand for “MEN MAKE MOVES, SUCKAZ STAND STILL” 3 Ms and 3 Ss. This brand is for any man woman or child who chooses to make moves on a daily basis instead of sitting around and being a sucker and waiting for things to come to them or complaining because they don’t. When people wear this brand I want them to feel like they’re putting energy on their body there’s no way you can sit around and make excuses while wearing M3S3 APPAREL!
What’s your vision for M3S3 Apparel?
My vision for M3S3 apparel is to grow globally and to be embraced by the biggest to smallest type of person. So if you are a Athlete, Body Builder, musician, artist, Mother, father, Child, everyday working person or hustler that MAKES MOVES everyday instead of being lazy and complacent, I want this brand to be the 1st thing that comes into your mind…like, “I cant just sit around..nah I’m M3S3, I gotta go get it” you understand?
What do you enjoy the most about running M3S3 Apparel?
What I honestly enjoy the most about running this brain is not only seeing people embrace it and wear something that I created but we often use of percentage of what we make to help out the community we do a lot of work and giving back to our veterans underprivileged kids or even adults who receive out in the community making a difference with what they got I feel like that’s my favorite part of M3S3 Apparel. is being able to get out there and give back and motivate others through my brand.
What do you find most challenging?
The most challenging part is having to see what I believe this is going to be without using my eyes. I mean, being an entrepreneur is kind of like dreaming about what’s on the other side and just jumping with no parachute and knowing that your landing on a cloud instead of a hard surface or fire. I have to know this vision or dream is going to come true. I cant say I dont have time, I have to make time, I have to believe when no one else is believing, I have to keep going when it seems logical to give up just because I know this or later I’m going to be able to live this dream full time. It takes ALOT of self motivation.
What advice would you give someone trying to start their own brand?
2 things, Your brand should represent you that way when you think about giving up your awsome giving up on yourself and you were truly believe that. Secondly, You have to find someone or something That’s more important thing you to keep you going. If everything’s about you then when you hit something hard adversity or a challenge you’re more likely to give up because there’s no driving force behind what you do you’re not letting anyone down but you but if you find that person or people That will hold you accountable and that you’re doing it for if you do give up or if you think about stopping your not only letting yourself down you’re letting down someone else’s well. For me its my family.
What can people expect next from M3S3 Apparel?
We are currently working on our summer releases T shirts tank tops shorts and also we have opened up our customization feature to wear if we don’t have a color you like you can contact us to customize.
