[Los Angeles, CA] – Following award winning Mick Fleetwood produced soul music documentary THIS IS LOVE, director John Alexander and Crook & Nanny Productions unveil an official teaser trailer for Little Satchmo, upcoming feature documentary redefining the perpetuated caricature of Louis Armstrong and revealing one of his dearest loves – a child hidden from the world: a daughter sworn to a life of secrecy until now.
Narrated by Armstrong’s only known biological child, Sharon Preston-Folta, the film gives voice to the last living descendent of “Ambassador Satch,” an American icon whose legacy has been deprived of the truth for far too long.
The film was adapted into screenplay form from Preston-Folta’s memoir coauthored with Denene Millner, “Little Satchmo: Living in the Shadow of my Father, Louis Daniel Armstrong,” and entered production as the COVID-19 pandemic began in 2020. Principal photography managed to continue safely, completing shooting units in Sarasota FL, New Orleans LA, and New York NY. The film is now in post-production, with music supervision and assistant direction from Emmy winner and Grammy nominee Eddie Korvin.
A sponsored project of the Southern Documentary Fund and with support from PBS Reel South, Little Satchmo will be announcing festival premieres and public television debuts in 2021. Audiences can follow @littlesatchmodoc on social media for details.
The film, produced by JC Guest and Lea Umberger, is executive produced by Sharon Preston-Folta and Susan Houston. Emily Bonavia, Ann Garvey, Muriel Minot, Terrence Beasor, and Tom and Jennifer Cotter are also Co-Producing the feature.
