Artist Spotlight: Chelsea Blues

Artist Spotlight: Chelsea Blues

Music can be found to be enjoyable for countless reasons. There’s no telling how a record can impact you, but some artist just have that special touch of soul to them. That soul that as soon as you hear their music, you just melt and feel like you can dream, while the music takes you to that special place you need to go to. Chelsea Blues is one of those amazing talents, who has that type of music. As soon as we heard her song “Hoping For the Best” we fell in love with her style and had to know more about this creative. She was gracious enough to take time to answer some questions for us. Below is the interview.

Who is Chelsea Blues the artist?

Chelsea Blues, is the live freestylin’, Jazz-Soul Bahamian International Artist. She has a voice that is warm and captivating, a stage presence that is spell binding and I’d say definitely looks to match!

My Sound can only be described, as if one’s self were to imagine a melting pool of colours; and warm sentiments, that guide you through a paradise of your own world. ‘Chelsea Blues’ with her jazzy vocal strides and soulful compositions, pour out love and joy with every beat and tap of foot.

When you experience my message of “love self to love others” through a blend of new school energy and old school dynamics – it’s the combination that can’t be missed!

Who are some of the influences and how do you incorporate that into the music?

I tend to describe myself as the love child of Erykah Badu, Ella Fitzgerald, Bobby McFerrin, Amy Winehouse & Snoop Dogg.

Billie Holliday for the Jazz; Erykah for the soul; Ella for the scats; Bobby for the freestyle; and Snoop… well for the lifestyle.

What was the creative process for your song Hoping For the Best”?

Hoping for the Best was actually written a year ago with London producer Ankit Suri. I was not in a great place and I really wanted some more positive music to listen to. Then we went into lockdown and I thought – man, no better time than now!

Three months later of the single’s release, I had shot and released the music video for “Hoping for the best.” I teamed up with; the talented Armzy Bam, an amazing director; The Incredible stylists Don’t Touch My Heritage & Yohannesse ; The flawless MoorBeauty, as my makeup artist; Choreographed by the brilliance of Gaddy Gad.

The video’s visuals call you into a fairy tale; the kind that trips you into love with a character, and you rise and fall with their journey’s tides, swept away with their bizarre happenings with hopes of resolve. Shot in Reading, Greater London; an atmosphere of otherworldly tranquillity is brought toile by the strong team.

Highly recommend checking VEVO out for a watch! 😉

How does it feel that Hoping For the Best” is out for people to hear?

Amazing! I can’t believe the love and support this song has received. I mean it’s one thing to make the song for you – but when someone else resonates with your work – its a truly wonderful and refreshing experience.

This audio sunshine – made to inspire hope and calm, while giving listeners some positive perspective and that feel good factor; Hoping for the best allows You, to dive deeper into Chelsea Blues’ more magical world. You’ll come out even warmer and more fulfilled, than you went in!

What is the biggest thing you want people to take away from your music?

To anyone listening to my music, please know that I didn’t write it as some guru to life’s questions, nor to portray myself as someone to aim to be like. These are all moments for me – you are free to interpret for you how you wish.

Please take each piece as a new space to find a new room of chill. A new experience to be suspended within and shared to someone who didn’t know they needed a pick-me-up too!

If you could give any advice to someone looking to become an independent artist, what would it be?

Are you truly ready to die for your craft in many ways? Haha, no I don’t mean in a doom and gloom physical kind of way. I mean shedding parts of you that need to be extinguished to excel in your craft, in your dream – to be your optimal you.

Being an independent artist is not for the faint of heart, it is not for those who are happy to just follow. You need to be sure of you and what your end goals are – that ultimate vision. If you cannot stand for your vision, the empire you hope to build cannot stand strong.

So please – trial and error to your hearts content. Stay true to yourself most of all. Only you have to live with the mental paradise you create – be sure you treat yourself well along this journey.

Whats next for Chelsea Blues?

Next month I drop another music video, to my single “Emotional Availability” Which I’m excited for, as this video is long overdue!

The song was released way back in 2018! This is going to be a special piece, so make sure you’re subscribed to my Youtube channel so you don’t miss out!

As soon as it is safe to do so, I aim to travel. Most definitely an overdue trip back home to the Bahamas. More visuals. That’s all next year though – for now I am in my cocoon, writing away, and seeing which gems will be coming your way! Watch this space.
