Music always leaves us wondering “Who is the next big star?”. That question that makes us look out for talent, till we hear something amazing enough that it answers the question for us. That’s the type of music you hear from Shawn Mathews on his latest release “Higher”. A big record that you know can travel any part of the world. We wanted to know more about the artist and he was willing to answer some questions for us. Below is the interview.
Who is Shawn Mathews the artist?
Shawn Mathews is a young American Recording Artist who has produced and mastered his own music for years before being signed to VALE Music Group. He recently released his first EP BLUE with Vale Music Group. Shawn has a unique voice that sets him apart from others, along with his versatility and ability to tune in to current trends in music.
His style and catchy rhythms are based on current hip hop music but are bouncy and vibrant. Shawn is an acclaimed Bollywood dancer and fuses his love for dance and American Pop music. His love for performing and music equates to his electric stage presence when performing live.
Who are some of the influences and how do you incorporate that into the music?
Some of my favorite artists are Baazi, John Bellion, Drake, Dominic Fike, and Khalid. I listen to their music a lot and love that their songs are casual and have a catchy rhythm and melody while being great productions. My music is modeled after theirs and is aims to provide that casual, easy, chill mood where you are just enjoying the music and grooving along when the music hits you.
What was the creative process for your new song “Higher”?
Higher is my first collab with KYE. Our goal was to make a pop single that would appeal to younger listeners. The song has a summer type vibe to is perfect to sing along to on a summer drive or at the beach parties. KYE and I work well together and came up with the song in a couple of hours. We then worked with our music producer for our album Mitch to tweak it and make it what it is now.
What is the biggest thing you want people to take away from your music?
I enjoy music for what it is, the mix, the production, the rhythm, etc. I hope that my listeners would feel the same way too and listen to my music as something to enjoy, live in the moment and bring that joy to that part of their life, without worrying about anything else.
What’s next for Shawn Mathews?
I have a lot of music coming up and will be releasing several singles with Vale Music over the summer and fall. Also planning to do a tour with Vale once the social distancing restrictions are lifted
