Yours Truly Jai talks Artistry, Influences, “Let Me In”, and What’s to Come

Soul is an element to music that is unmatched. It’s that element that makes music stick with you, and make you a fan of not only the music but the person behind the music as well. When we heard Yours Truly Jai’s new song “Let Me In” featuring Jyou and Ron Obasi, we had to know about this special talent who has music that couldn’t be denied. She was gracious enough to take time to answer some questions for us. Below is the interview.

Who is Yours Truly Jai the artist?

Yours Truly Jai is a powerhouse, a butterfly and she’s full of ambition and love. She is now finally in full recognition of her talent, her reason, her why.. full of ideas and drive!

Who are some of the influences and how do you incorporate that into the music?

My biggest influence is Jill Scott, has been for a minute, with big credits to Beyoncé, Jennifer Hudson, Erykah Badu, as well. I have a thing for big powerful voices.. especially in the gospel genre. The list of gospel artist that inspire me is endless. I breathe music, so I’m always listening and incorporating without knowledge sometimes. Wether that be runs or the way I enunciate etc. I incorporate a lot of soul into my music. Soul music is the one thing I can never lack in my music. I love music that I can connect with emotionally,  music that makes me FEEL, and that’s what I wanna provide for the people

What was your favorite part of creating your new song “Let Me In”?

My favorite part was arranging it.. I knew I wanted obasi and Jyou on it asap.. two of my favorite voices and I knew that their pen game would be up to par with what the song is about. I know all of us deal with internal afflictions and sometimes negative thoughts, self doubt, insecurities, etc get the best of us.. especially when it seems like we don’t got nobody keeping it all the way real with us.

Staying true to self and knowing that life is only but a journey and that this Earth is only our home for a short period of time is the only thing that I personally have sometimes. I sat in the car at 11:30 at night (was dealing wit a whole bunch) and was originally writing in my journal, i title my journal entries, I called this one window… and that led to writing “let me in”

How did you decide on the features for “Let Me In”?

I met JYou summer of 2019, at the time he was working on a project titled the rough draft (go get that).  He asked if I’d be down for a feature and I was sold solely because of a snippet of his voice he sent me.. hes lyrical and passionate.. we’ve been creating ever since. Obasi… obasi blows my mind with all content he puts out and/or is featured on.. he sounds like he was born to be a rapper.

What is the biggest thing you want people to take away from your music?

Biggest take away from my music…
I stated previously just want people to feel me through my music as a whole.. production, lyrics, the whole 9 my hand is in all aspects of it because I want my vision to be executed the right way. I want to make people feel good, that one phrase that’s stuck in ya head throughout the day. I want it to be something of mine.

What’s next for Yours Truly Jai?

I got a project in the works, more singles on the way.. forever and always creating for the love of it all.. stay tuned. You’ll hear my name a lot!
