Master Pen – King Myles

Master Pen – King Myles

“They tried to stop me with a stop sign, but I got the right away”

Hip Hop can be done and absorbed a lot of different ways. Most music today has a lot of bounce and surface level lyrics that make the people move, but there are still some artist who go against the grain and give you not only quality work but their true self as an artist. King Myles gives you the real on his new song “Vapors”. A perfect storm of great production and amazing lyrics that tell his story while also being sharp on the mic that makes for incredible audio.

King Myles was gracious enough to take time to break down his Master Pen that went to his song “Vapors” below is the interview.

Who is King Myles the artist?

A: King Myles the artist is bravado, bounce, knowledge and lyricism all rolled together to give you a window into my worldly experiences. The sound is an ever-evolving blend of experimental Hip-hop/rap heavily influenced by Felz, my producer and fellow Hiii Tribe teammate. The message is deeply rooted in spiritual advancement through self discovery.
What inspired the lyrical approach to “Vapors”?

A: Vapors was really inspired by my journey with music and just thinking about how far I’ve come. I wanted to pen a track that could tell a story about where I am currently, where I’ve been and where I want to go. My time growing up in Milwaukee and all the things I’ve experienced played a huge role in this track. I feel like this release is the most accurate depiction of who I am as both an artist and a person that to date. Felz put together a perfect canvas for me to paint on, so big ups to my producer for the assist.

In your opinion what is the bar you wrote that you knew would get people’s attention and break it down?
A: “I keep my soul in the temple, I’ve got a song to be sung. My ambition is to build a solar system around each of my sons.”
Everyone who knows me knows that I’m the father of 3 little boys who mean everything to me. Being a father is my ultimate calling and after experiencing the death of my dad this year, it put so many things into perspective. The goal with my expression is to just create something that my kids can be proud of. I want to build something sustainable and surround them with a support system. I think that bar really conveys that desire effectively.

What do you think is the bar that people may sleep on listening to “Vapors” and why?

A: “I learned to catch the current, I’m charged up. Syllable surgery, instrumentals get carved up. You better Jack-o-lantern to step a foot in the cavern where I reside. Known to turn cadets to cadavers, audible homicide.”

I guess it’s more of a sequence than a bar maybe? Either way, I think this one probly just goes over people’s heads because you have to unravel it a little bit. The beginning kind of sets the stage, just letting it be known how sharp my pen is. I love the play on “Jack-o-Lantern”/ Jack a lantern and how it connects with “instrumentals get carved up”. After that I’m basically saying to any rapper  that your carving skills better be equally as sharp to see me in that arena. Then I tie it all together with that crazy “cadets to cadavers, audible homicide” play on words. I just love how many layers there are to that one.

What would you rate your pen on “Vapors” 1-10? 10 being the highest?A: I would call Vapors an 8.5. Almost 3 minutes straight, super potent, no hook and it effecively tells a story. The bars envoke visuals in your mind and it takes you places. Technically speaking I think there’s another tier I can tap into but for what Vapors sets out to achieve, it’s spot on.
